No, this doesn’t mean does your website talk back to you, or is it breathing, rather, does it adapt its display to fit different devices?
So why should it do so and why is this important?
Most internet searches today are done, not on a computer, but a mobile device, like a smartphone or tablet.
So if your website doesn’t display properly on those formats, chances are your visitor will not stay long. Who wants to have to peer into a small screen and expand the page just to find your contact details?
And that’s even if you are found on the relevant search results. Due to the increased importance of mobile searches, Google uses mobile responsiveness as one of it’s ranking factors for a website. If your website doesn’t provide a good user experience for your visitors, this will affect its ranking for relevant keywords.
So how do you find out if your website is mobile responsive? A simple way is to use your smartphone or tablet, visit your site and test can you read the content easily and is the menu accessible and easy to navigate from page to page.
Another way to check is with a free Google tool. Just enter your URL (site name) and Google will test your website for responsiveness and return the results for you to see.
For old websites that predate the huge rise in mobile device usage, chances are your website is not mobile responsive and will require adjustment or rebuilding.
Don’t fret though. With modern website designs, this is not such a daunting task and you can view it as a good time to review and refresh your site content and do some spring cleaning. Copyright displaying ©2010? Yes, maybe it was time for an update!
